Employee Loyalty and the Millennial Generation: “Y” You Should Believe the Hype

If you’ve been following current Human Resource trends and issues, including employee loyalty, you’ve undoubtedly heard all about Generation Y, aka the “Millennials”, over and over (and over) again. They are the next generation of young professionals, not only joining existing companies but also starting their own. Continue reading

Build a Thriving Business Through Customer Relationships

No matter how you look at it, the old adage is true: Customers are really purchasing you, not your product. You might have a great product. Perhaps you own a restaurant that offers the best seafood in the area. Or maybe your printing business continually offers great deals to area businesses and you have the most up-to-date printing equipment available. While that’s definitely important, the best way to build a thriving business is to develop real relationships with your customers. Continue reading

Why Losing Money Was Good for Our Business – Four Lessons for New Franchisees

I have a confession – which will either positively or negatively impact my credibility. You decide. My confession is that within the first six months of operating our franchised business, we lost money. Sales were actually up a little, but profits were down (even below those of the previous franchise owner, as we had purchased a franchise already in operation). Surveys – And Why Should you Take Ours?

There are some people who love taking surveys. They consider it an opportunity to share their thoughts and opinions with someone who really wants to hear them (unlike our children, our spouse or even sometimes our employees)! If that’s you, stop reading right now, and go take our survey … you don’t need any more convincing, because we DEFINITELY want to hear from YOU and we care about what you have to say.

If you don’t like taking surveys, or you need a really good reason to spend your valuable time doing so, or if you already have plenty of people who love to hear your ideas, thoughts, and opinions, then let me tell you why you should take our survey anyway. Continue reading

We Don’t Know It All

If we don’t “know it all”, why should you spend time interacting with us? Well, that’s easy – because we are really nice people! Haha…I guess that’s probably not enough of a reason for you to spend your incredibly valuable time with us, even though it’s true! Actually, I think it’s to your benefit that we don’t know everything there is to know. We continually learn, grow, and increase our success – and we want to bring others along with us. It’s more fun to journey alongside people than to go it alone. And, frankly, we get an immense amount of satisfaction in helping others and seeing them grow, which is one of the main reasons we are business owners to begin with.

It’s not Business, It’s Personal

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying that “It’s not personal, it’s business.” But if you think about it, it’s always personal on the receiving end – whether it’s having a tough conversation with an employee or helping a customer decide what to order off your menu, the end result typically impacts someone personally.

Also, think about the places you enjoy going to most. Oftentimes it’s because of how you feel when you’re there – when you visit your mom for a home-cooked meal, purchase a car from a dealer who is helpful instead of pushy, or when you and your spouse take a seat in your favorite server’s section and they say, “Diet Coke and raspberry-flavored tea today?” Conversely, have you ever waited in a grocery line for 15 minutes (which seemed like ½ an hour) and had the clerk complain to you that they haven’t had a break yet today?
